The Story of the Giant's Causeway

In a green, green land called Ireland, lived a giant named Finn MacCool. Finn was a very big giant with very big feet. He loved his home with its tall green hills and its shiny, sparkly rivers. But across the big, blue sea lived another giant. His name was Benandonner. Benandonner had a big, loud voice. He liked to shout, "I am the strongest giant!". He would shout it all day long. Stomp, stomp, stomp. Finn heard the shouting. He wanted to see this big, shouting giant. So Finn made a big, big plan. This is the story of the Giant’s Causeway.

Finn took big, big stones. The stones were like giant blocks. He pushed them into the water. Splash. Splash. Splash. He made a long, long path of stones across the water. The path went all the way to Scotland. But oh no. Benandonner was coming. And he was bigger than Finn. He was a very, very big giant. Finn ran home fast. Thump, thump, thump went his giant feet. Finn's clever wife, Oonagh, had a plan. She put a little baby hat on Finn's big head. She put Finn in a big baby bed. Benandonner came to the door. He saw the big, big baby. "Wow," he thought. "If the baby is this big, his daddy must be super, super big.". He got very scared. He ran away, all the way back to Scotland. He broke the stone path so Finn could not follow.

The stones that are left are still there today. They make a beautiful, bumpy path into the sea. People call it the Giant’s Causeway. It is a very special place to visit. The story shows that being clever is a good thing, even better than being big and strong. Now, little children can hop and play on the giant stones. They can pretend they are big, strong giants, just like Finn MacCool.
