Professor Emeritus of Educational Leadership at National Louis University's National College of Education, and a Chicago educator for more than three decades as a teacher, principal, and administrator. As Deputy Chief of Education at Chicago Public Schools he led wide-ranging departments and programs, and as Interim Chief of the Midway Network he supported 35 schools and 33,000 students. He founded John Spry Community School and Community Links High School in Little Village, pioneering a pre-K through high school model built around full graduation and deep family and community engagement. A former Chicago Board of Education member and current Chair of the Northeastern Illinois University Board of Trustees, he holds a doctorate in Leadership and Educational Policy from Northern Illinois University, authored Creating Engagement Between Schools and their Communities, and has a Chicago street named in his honor.
