Ankylosaurus: The Armored Lizard

Hi there! My name is Ankylosaurus. That's a big name, but it just means 'fused lizard.' I had a super strong body covered in bony plates (osteoderms) embedded in my skin, providing heavy armor, but not forming a continuous shell like a turtle's! It keeps me safe while I stomp around through the big green forests.

My best feature is my tail. At the very end, there's a big, heavy club made of bone. If anything scary comes near, I can swing my tail—whoosh! I might look tough, but I'm very gentle. I don't eat other dinosaurs. I love to munch on yummy, low-growing plants and tasty ferns all day long. Munch, munch, munch!

I lived a long, long, long time ago, in a time called the Late Cretaceous Period. The world was full of amazing dinosaurs then! Today, you won't see me walking around, but people find my big bones buried in the earth. They put them together in museums so you can see how strong and special I was. It makes me happy to know that I am remembered as the great armored lizard.
