A Nile Crocodile's River Story
Hello! I am a Nile Crocodile. My home is in the big, splashy rivers of Africa where the sun is always warm and bright. My body is very strong and covered in bumpy scales that feel like armor. I have a long, powerful tail that I swish back and forth. It helps me swim super fast through the water. When I open my mouth, you can see my great big smile filled with lots of teeth! For many, many years, my favorite thing to do is float quietly in the water. I look just like a floating log. Only my eyes and my nose peek out so I can see everything around me.
I started my life as a tiny baby hatching from an egg on the sandy riverbank. When it was time, I hatched out with all my brothers and sisters. Our mom looked very big and strong, but I will tell you a secret. She was the gentlest mom ever! She used her giant mouth to pick each one of us up. She was so careful. She carried us safely down to the river. Her mouth was like our very first cozy little boat, keeping us safe and sound as she swam.
I have a very important job in my river home. I am a River Keeper. I help keep the river healthy and clean for all the other animals that live here, like the fish and the birds. By doing my job, I make sure everything in the river stays in balance. I am very proud to be a Nile Crocodile. It feels good to be such an important part of my amazing river home.
