Sea Otter

Hello. I am a Sea Otter. I live in the big, cool ocean. My fur is the thickest and fuzziest fur in the whole wide world. It is like wearing a big, warm coat all the time. My special fur keeps me nice and warm when I swim in the chilly water. I love to float on my back. I bob up and down on the waves, just like a little boat resting on the water.

Every day is a busy day for me. When I get hungry, I dive down to find yummy snacks. I look for tasty clams and spiky sea urchins on the ocean floor. I have a very clever trick for my breakfast. I use a little rock as a tool. I float on my back and put the rock on my tummy to crack open the hard shells. When it's time for a nap, I find my friends. We all hold hands so we don't float away while we sleep. We make a big, cozy raft of otters.

I have a very important job in my ocean home. By eating lots of sea urchins, I help the pretty kelp forests grow tall and strong. These wavy forests are a safe home for so many little fish and other sea animals. Helping to keep the ocean healthy and safe for all my friends is the best job I could ever have. I am a helper of the kelp forest.
