A Day in the Life of a T. rex

Hello! My name is Tyrannosaurus rex, but my friends call me T. rex. My name means 'Tyrant Lizard King,' and I think it fits me perfectly! Tyrannosaurus rex lived about 68 to 66 million years ago. While it's likely that T. rex hatched from eggs, direct evidence of their eggs has not been found. My world was warm and full of giant ferns and tall trees. I wasn't born big and mighty; I started out small, but I knew one day I would be the king of my home in a place you now call North America.

I grew up very fast! To get big and strong, I had to eat a lot of meat. I was a carnivore, and my favorite meals were other dinosaurs, like the three-horned Triceratops. I had a massive skull, with some specimens having skulls up to 1.3 meters (about 4.3 feet) long. My teeth could reach lengths of up to 15 cm (6 inches), comparable to the size of a banana. My bite was one of the most powerful ever! My legs were strong and sturdy, perfect for chasing down my dinner. You might giggle at my arms because they were so tiny, but they were very strong and might have helped me hold onto my food.

As a grown-up, I was as long as a school bus and weighed more than an elephant. I was the top predator, which means no other animal dared to hunt me. I had a fantastic sense of smell that helped me find food from far away. I would stomp through the forests and plains, my giant feet making the ground shake with every step. Being the king was a big job, but I was built for it!

I lived during the Late Cretaceous Period, a very long time ago. My friends and I are no longer walking around, but you can still meet me! In 1902, a man named Barnum Brown found my bones, which are called fossils. Today, scientists called paleontologists study my fossils to learn about the amazing world of dinosaurs. They put my skeleton together in big museums so everyone can see how magnificent I was. I may be from the past, but by studying my bones, I help you understand the incredible history of our planet.
