Alan Turing: The Boy Who Loved Puzzles
Hello there! My name is Alan Turing, and I want to tell you a story about my favorite things: numbers and puzzles! When I was a little boy, born on a sunny day on June 23rd, 1912, I didn’t play with regular toys very much. My favorite game was solving puzzles and thinking about numbers. They were like a secret code that I could understand. I loved to count everything I saw and figure out how things worked. It made my brain feel happy and strong.
When I grew up, my friends needed help with a very big, very tricky puzzle. It was like the hardest secret message game in the whole world! Some people were sending secret messages, and it was important to know what they were saying to keep everyone safe. I thought and thought about it. My brain whizzed and whirred, and then I had a wonderful idea. What if I could build a machine that was super smart at solving puzzles? A thinking machine!
So, I designed a great big machine with whirring gears and clicking parts. It was like a giant brain that could solve the secret messages faster than any person could. My machine helped my friends solve their big puzzle, which helped everyone stay safe. My ideas about 'thinking machines' helped other clever people build the computers we use today to learn, play games, and talk to our families. It all started with a love for puzzles!
