Bruce Lee: Be Like Water

Hello! My name is Bruce Lee. I was born on November 27th, 1940, in San Francisco, California. Even though I was born in America, I grew up far away in a bustling city called Hong Kong. I was a busy kid, full of energy! I loved to dance, and I was even a child actor in movies. All that moving and acting was fun, but I wanted to learn how to be strong and defend myself, which led me to discover the amazing world of martial arts.

When I was a teenager, around 1954, I began training with a great teacher named Ip Man. He taught me a martial art called Wing Chun. It was all about being fast, smart, and using your opponent's energy against them. In 1959, I moved back to America to go to college. I wanted to share what I had learned, so I opened my own martial arts schools. I started thinking about creating my very own style. I called it Jeet Kune Do, which means 'The Way of the Intercepting Fist.' My biggest idea was to 'be like water'—able to change, flow, and adapt to anything.

Soon, Hollywood noticed my skills! In 1966, I got to be in a TV show called 'The Green Hornet,' playing a character named Kato. It was so exciting to show my martial arts on screen! After that, I returned to Hong Kong and starred in my own action movies, like 'The Big Boss' and 'Fist of Fury.' I wanted to show the world how powerful and beautiful martial arts could be. My biggest movie was called 'Enter the Dragon,' which came out in 1973. It made people all over the world fall in love with kung fu!

I lived to be 32 years old, but my story didn't end there. People remember me today for my lightning-fast moves in movies and for my ideas about martial arts. I hope my story inspires you to work hard, believe in yourself, and always remember to be like water—strong yet flexible, ready for anything that comes your way.
