George Washington: The First President

Hello, my name is George. A long, long time ago, I was a little boy who lived on a big farm in a place called Virginia. I loved living on the farm. My home had big green fields and tall, shady trees. My favorite thing to do was ride my horse all around. We would gallop through the fields and explore the quiet woods together. I loved my family very much, and I always tried to be a good helper on our farm. Playing outside under the big blue sky made me feel so happy and free. It was a wonderful place to grow up.

When I got bigger, my home, America, was not its own country yet. Many people who lived here wanted to make their own rules and be in charge, like a family in their own house. They needed a big helper, and they asked me to be the leader of our soldiers. It was a very big and very hard job. I felt a little scared, but I knew it was important to help. We all worked together like a big team. We shared our food, we helped each other, and we were very brave because we loved our home so much and wanted it to be a safe place for everyone.

After all our hard work, our home became a new country called the United States of America. Hooray. The people needed one person to be the main leader, and guess what. They picked me. I became the very first president. My job was to help everyone be safe and happy. I worked hard to make our new country a kind and fair place for all the families who lived here. I grew very old and then I died, but I was so proud that I could help. Being a helper is the best job in the world.
