Leonardo da Vinci

Hello! My name is Leonardo. I was born a long, long time ago, on April 15, 1452, in a little town called Vinci in Italy. I grew up in the sunny countryside, and it was my very first playground! I loved to watch swirly water in the streams, puffy clouds floating in the big blue sky, and little birds flapping their wings to fly. I always carried a notebook with me. Whenever I saw something interesting, like a colorful flower or a funny-looking bug, I would draw it. Drawing was my favorite way to understand the wonderful world all around me. I was a very curious boy, and I wanted to know how everything worked. It was so much fun to explore!

When I was a teenager, I moved to the big, busy city of Florence. I went to work in a special place called a workshop. It was full of amazing things! There were pots of colorful paint, big blocks of stone for carving, and lots of other young artists learning, just like me. My teacher was named Verrocchio, and he showed me how to mix colors to make them just right and how to paint beautiful pictures. I loved spending my days there, learning, creating, and making art with my friends. It was the best school I could imagine! We painted and laughed all day long.

I didn't just love to paint; I loved to dream up new ideas! I painted a picture of a lady with a secret, happy smile. Maybe you've seen her? Her name is Mona Lisa. I also filled my notebooks with drawings of amazing inventions. I dreamed of making a machine that could fly like a bird! I lived a long, happy life full of art and ideas, and then I grew very old and died. But my paintings and my dreams are still here for you to see. I believed that if you look closely at the world and ask lots of questions, you can do anything you can imagine. Always be curious and keep dreaming big, just like I did.
