A Story from a Queen

Hello! My name is Elizabeth, but when I was a little girl, my family called me Lilibet. I lived in a big house in London with my mummy, my daddy, and my little sister, Margaret. I loved to play outside and spend time with my family. My very favorite thing to do was play with my dogs. They were called Corgis, and they had pointy ears and short, stubby legs that wiggled when they ran. They were so much fun. I never thought I would be a queen one day. I just thought I would grow up and have a lot of dogs and horses to play with forever!

One day, something surprising happened. My daddy became the King! That was a very big job. It also meant that one day, I would have to be the Queen. When I grew up, it was my turn. A long, long time ago, in the year 1953, I had a very special party called a coronation. I wore a big, sparkly crown on my head and a beautiful long cape that flowed behind me. I made a promise that day to always look after my people and be their Queen for my whole life. It was a very important job, but I was happy to do it for everyone.

Being a queen was a big adventure! I got to travel the world on boats and airplanes and meet so many wonderful people. My dear husband, Philip, was always by my side. We had four children, and then we had grandchildren, and our family grew and grew. And of course, I always had my Corgis with me! I kept my promise and was the Queen for a very, very long time. I grew very old, and then my long life came to an end. But it made me so happy to serve my country and be a part of so many people's lives. It is always good to keep your promises and help others.
