A Big Weather Hug
Have you ever wondered why some places are snowy and cold, and other places are sunny and warm all the time. I am the reason you know to wear a warm, fuzzy coat in the winter and cool shorts in the summer. Think of me like a big weather hug that lasts for a very, very long time. Some places get my snowy hug, and some get my sunny hug. It’s a place's favorite kind of weather. Are you ready to meet me. Hello. I am Climate.
For a long, long, long time, people just knew me by feeling me. They knew their homes were hot and sandy or cold and snowy. They knew when to plant tiny seeds to grow yummy carrots and when to build cozy houses to stay warm from the wind. Then, some very curious people started to watch me very closely. Every single day, they would look at the big blue sky and feel the air on their cheeks. They used special tools, like a little stick that goes up when I am warm and down when I am chilly. They wrote everything down in big books. After many, many years of watching and writing, they saw a big pattern. They saw that I wasn't just the weather for one day, but for years and years. That's how they finally got to know me.
I have a very important job. I help all the plants and animals find their perfect homes. I make sure the big, fluffy polar bears have lots of cold snow to play in, and I give the little green lizards warm sunshine to nap in. I help farmers know the best time to plant their seeds so we can all have yummy strawberries and crunchy apples to eat. Today, lots of wonderful people are working together to keep me healthy and happy. They are giving the whole Earth a big hug. This helps me keep every place cozy and just right for all the people, plants, and animals in the world.
