A Story from a Comet

Hello down there on your big, round world. I am a sparkly, bright light in the dark, quiet sky. Whoosh! I fly past the moon and the sleepy stars. I have a long, shiny tail that follows me everywhere I go. It sparkles and shines. I am made of cold ice and little bits of dust, like a big snowball in space. Can you guess who I am? I am a Comet.

For a long, long time, people would look up and see me. I was a surprise in the night sky. I looked like a fuzzy star with a long, sparkly tail. A very smart man named Edmond Halley watched me. He learned that I was not lost. He saw that I was just visiting. He knew I was on a big trip around the big, warm Sun. He said my famous cousin, also named Halley, would come back to say hello again after many, many years. Now when you see me, you know I am a friendly visitor from space, just swinging by to wave hello.

I come from far, far away, but I love to see you look up at the sky. When you see my sparkly tail, it is a special hello from space. I remind you that space is big and full of wonderful things. I help people learn about how the stars and planets were made a long, long time ago. So next time you see a bright light with a long tail, wave to me. I am just a happy space snowball on a big adventure, telling you to always wonder and look up at the stars.
