A World Full of Colors
Imagine a big, bright box of crayons. It has red, yellow, blue, and even sparkly silver. Isn't it fun to have so many colors to draw with? If you only had one color, your pictures wouldn't be as exciting or as beautiful. I help make the world like that big box of crayons. I fill it with people who have different skin colors, different families, and who like to eat different yummy foods. Some of us are quiet and like to read soft books, and some of us are loud and love to sing songs. Some of us love to run fast, and others love to build tall towers with blocks. I make sure all these differences fit together just like a beautiful rainbow in the sky.
Do you know who I am? I am Diversity and Inclusion. That’s a big name, but my job is simple and happy. 'Diversity' means all our wonderful differences, like all the colors in the crayon box. 'Inclusion' is my superpower—it means making sure everyone feels welcome and gets to play together. A long, long time ago, some people were left out of games just because they were different. That made them feel very sad. But kind people, like a leader named Martin Luther King Jr., spoke up with a big, strong voice. They said it was important for everyone to be treated fairly and with kindness. On July 2nd, 1964, a new rule was made to help make sure all people could go to the same schools and parks together.
Today, I am still working hard to make the world a friendly place for everyone. I am there when you share your favorite toys with a new friend at school. I am there when you listen to a story about a family that is different from yours. Every time you smile at someone new or ask them to join your game, you are helping me. You are my special helper. You are making our big, colorful world an even happier home for every single person.
