The Big, Friendly Game of Sharing
Have you ever shared a yummy snack with a friend. Or maybe you traded your blue block for their red one. It feels so good to give something and get something new. I am that happy, warm feeling. I am the magic of sharing and helping each other. When you trade and share, I am there. Hello. My name is Economy.
Long, long ago, people learned all about me. Imagine a farmer with a big garden full of crunchy orange carrots. He had so many carrots. But oh no, his feet were cold. He needed warm shoes. Not far away, a shoemaker made soft, cozy shoes. He had so many shoes. But his tummy was rumbly. He needed food. The farmer gave the shoemaker carrots, and the shoemaker gave the farmer shoes. They were both so happy. That was me, Economy, helping them trade. A very smart man named Adam Smith saw how wonderful it was when people shared their special jobs, and he told everyone about me.
I am all around you today. When your grown-up goes to the grocery store and gets a big, red apple, that’s me. When you go to the toy store and get a brand new bouncy ball, that’s me, too. I am like a big, friendly game that the whole world plays together. Everyone has a special job, and by sharing what we do and what we make, we help everyone get what they need to be happy and healthy. Sharing is the best game of all.
