A Little Piece of Everything

Have you ever watched the bright green line on a tablet get smaller and smaller as you play a fun game. Or have you ever shared a big, yummy cookie so everyone gets a piece. You can see me when you pour yummy apple juice into a glass. First the glass is empty, then it is a little full, then it is all the way full. I am in all of those places, helping you see how much of something you have. I am a helper for sharing and seeing. Hi. I'm Percentage.

My name sounds a little tricky, but I am all about the number 100. Long, long ago, people needed a way to talk about parts of things, like parts of a big pile of apples or parts of a big bag of coins. So, they decided to pretend everything was made of 100 little pieces. My name, percent, means 'for every 100.' Imagine you have a big bag with 100 colorful blocks inside. If you pull out 10 red blocks, that is 10 percent of all the blocks. If you pull out 50 blue blocks, that is 50 percent of the blocks. That is half of all the blocks in the bag. See. It is like a fun counting game with 100 little parts.

I am here to help you every single day. When your favorite game is loading, I show you when it is halfway done, at 50 percent. When you water a little seed and it grows into a big, tall flower, I am there to say it is 100 percent grown. I help grown-ups at the store, and I help you know when your cup is almost full. I love helping everyone share things fairly and understand the world a little bit better. I am a little piece of everything, and I am here to help you count all the wonderful parts of your world.
