The Magic Clicker

Imagine you are all cozy on the couch, watching your favorite cartoon. What happens if you want to see a new show. You do not have to get up. You can just pick me up, point me at the big screen, and click. A whole new picture pops up. It feels like a little bit of magic, doesn't it. That special power to change things from far away. that is me.

Hello. I am the Remote Control. My story started a long, long time ago. In 1898, a very smart man named Nikola Tesla had a toy boat. He could make the boat go left and right in the water without even touching it. He used invisible waves to tell it where to go. That was like my great-great-grandpa. Later, when big TVs came into houses, people wanted to change the channel without leaving their comfy chairs. My first TV cousin came in 1950, but it had a long cord that got all tangled up. Then, in 1955, a clever inventor named Eugene Polley made me without any wires. I used a tiny flash of light to tell the TV what to do.

Just one year later, in 1956, another smart person named Robert Adler taught me a new trick. I could make a special high sound that only TVs could hear. Click. People loved it. Today, I do more than just change TV shows. I can unlock a car with a beep. I help toy airplanes fly high in the sky. I can play your favorite songs. I love making your life easier and full of fun. With just one little click, I put the magic right in your hands.
