The Stars' Nighttime Story
Hello, up there. When the sun goes to sleep, the sky becomes a big, dark blanket. Do you see me? I look like sparkly glitter sprinkled all over. I twinkle and I shine. My light travels a very, very long way to reach your eyes. I am so happy when you wave to me from your window. What am I? I am the Stars. It is so nice to see you looking up at me tonight.
People have looked up at me for a long, long, long time. It is a fun game to play with me. They connect my little lights, like a big connect-the-dots puzzle in the sky. They see amazing pictures. They see a big bear sleeping, a brave hunter with a belt, and even a sparkly lion with a fuzzy mane. Long, long ago, sailors on big wooden ships would look up at me when they were on the big, dark ocean. I was their map. When the water was dark and wide, I would show them the way home. I helped them find their way, just by shining bright in my special spot in the sky.
Do you want to know a secret? I am a giant, glowing ball of hot gas. It is true. Your big, warm Sun is a star, just like me. The Sun is my closest friend who shines in the daytime. You see my friend during the day, and you see me and my other star friends at night. I only look like a tiny dot because I am so, so far away. The next time you see me twinkling, close your eyes and make a wish. Keep wondering about our big, beautiful sky. I will always be here, shining for you.
