A Wrinkle in Time
Before you know my name, feel my smooth cover. My pages make a soft, crinkly sound. I sit on a shelf, quiet and still. But inside me, there is a big secret! I hold a whole world of adventure. Inside, there are shiny, swirling stars. There are big, shadowy planets. You can hear a whisper of a journey far, far away. When you open me, you can almost feel a little wrinkle in time. I am a special book. My name is 'A Wrinkle in Time'.
A kind woman with a big imagination made me. Her name was Madeleine L'Engle. She was my story-maker. She took her pen and filled my pages with her wonderful ideas. She dreamed up a brave girl named Meg. She dreamed up her smart little brother, Charles Wallace. And she dreamed up their good friend, Calvin. Madeleine imagined them flying through space on a big adventure! They were looking for their lost daddy. She wrote about fighting the dark shadows with something very strong. The strongest thing of all is love. She finished my story a long, long time ago. On January 1st, 1962, I was all ready for children like you to read my story.
For many, many years, children have opened my cover. They travel with Meg to faraway worlds. I help them see that being different is wonderful. I show them that being brave comes from your heart. I love to help you pretend. You can pretend to ride on the wind. You can pretend to talk to a star. I am here to remind you of something important. Even when things feel a little scary, love is like a bright, shiny light. When you read my story, your very own adventure begins!
