A Story About Friendship
I sit quietly on a bookshelf, waiting for a friend. My cover is bright and colorful, with a picture of a little pig and a smiling spider in her web. I hold a magical world inside my pages. It is a world with a warm, cozy barn, sweet smells of hay, and lots of animal friends. If you open me up, you will find a story about a very special friendship. I am filled with words and pictures that tell this happy, wonderful tale. I am the book, 'Charlotte's Web'.
My story began a long, long time ago. A kind man named E. B. White dreamed me up. He lived on a big green farm and he loved animals very much. He watched his pigs and spiders and got a wonderful idea. He took his pen and wrote down all the words about my friends, Wilbur the pig and Charlotte the spider. Another friendly man named Garth Williams drew all the pictures inside me. He drew Wilbur's happy smile and Charlotte's beautiful web. I was ready to meet the world on October 15th, 1952. That was the day I was first shared, ready to find new friends like you.
When children open my pages, they learn about being a true friend. Charlotte the spider is very clever and very brave. She shows everyone how to be kind and how to help someone you love. Wilbur the pig is small, but he has a great big heart. He learns that friendship is the most important thing of all. I love being held in cozy laps during story time, sharing my tale. I help you see that even the littlest spider can do big, important things. My story shows that true friends always, always help each other. And I will always be here on the shelf, waiting to share my story of love with you.
