I Speak for the Trees

Hello there. If you open my covers, you will find a world filled with amazing colors. The grass is bright green, and the sky is a happy blue. You will see tall, silly trees with tops as soft and fluffy as cotton balls. These are my Truffula Trees. Little bears hum and play under my trees. But you will also see a small, orange friend with a big, yellow mustache. He looks a little bit grumpy, but he has a very big heart. He is watching over his world, and he has an important story to tell you. I am the book called The Lorax, and I hold his story inside my pages for you to read.

I was made by a very kind man who had a big, wonderful imagination. His name was Theodor Geisel, but everyone called him Dr. Seuss. He loved to draw silly pictures and write fun rhymes. On August 12th, 1971, he used his colorful paints and pencils to create me. He drew the fluffy Truffula Trees and the grumpy-but-good Lorax who speaks for them. Dr. Seuss loved our real world's trees and animals, and he worried about them. So, he made me to share a story that helps everyone remember to be kind to our world and take care of it.

Inside my pages, someone makes a big mistake and chops down all the beautiful trees. It feels a little sad for a moment, but I promise there is a happy secret at the end. I hold a message of hope. I show children that even when things seem a little gloomy, one small person who cares a lot can help make the world beautiful again. I am here to whisper to you that if you care, you can help things get better. You can be the one to plant a new seed and make a big, happy difference.
