The School of Athens
I live on a big, tall wall in a sunny room. I am a giant picture, full of friends. Can you see them all? They wear colorful robes in reds, blues, and golds. They are standing under beautiful, tall arches that look like rainbows made of stone. Some friends are walking, some are talking, and some are pointing to the sky. Everyone is sharing big, wonderful ideas. I am a happy place, a special painting where everyone is learning together. My name is The School of Athens, and I am a room full of friends.
My wonderful painter made me a long, long time ago. His name was Raphael, and he loved to paint with bright, happy colors. In the year 1509, he picked up his brushes and decided to create me. Raphael wanted to make a special picture where all the smartest people from long ago could meet and be friends. He painted them walking and talking together, like they were at the best party for thinkers you could ever imagine. In the very middle, you can see two men. One points up to the sky, and one points down to the ground. They are sharing their biggest ideas with everyone.
People come from all over the world just to say hello to me. They look at all my friends in their colorful clothes and wonder what they are talking about. I am here to remind everyone that it’s fun to learn and share ideas. When we listen to each other, we can imagine amazing things, just like the friends in my picture do. I love being a picture full of ideas.
