The Painting with a Big Feeling
Look at me. I am full of swirly, wavy colors. Can you see my sky. It is bright with fiery orange and warm yellow, like a sunset saying goodnight. Below my sky is a deep, dark blue river. Swish. Swish. Have you ever had a feeling that was so big it felt like it filled the whole world. A feeling so loud you wanted to shout. I am a painting full of a very big, loud feeling. My colors show you how big it feels. My name is The Scream, and I am here to share a feeling with you. It's a feeling everyone has sometimes.
My best friend made me. His name was Edvard Munch. He was a painter who loved to share his feelings with colors. A long, long time ago, in the year 1893, Edvard was walking on a bridge with his friends. The sun was going down, and suddenly the whole sky turned fiery red. It was so bright and so big. Edvard said it felt like a loud scream was passing through the world. He felt that big feeling deep inside his heart. So, he went home and got his paints. He used his brush to make wavy red and orange lines for the sky. He painted the deep blue water. And he painted a little person to show everyone what that big, loud feeling looked like on the inside.
Edvard painted me to show that it is okay to have big feelings. Sometimes feelings are happy and sunny. Sometimes they are sad and quiet. And sometimes, they are loud and swirly, just like me. I help people look at my colors and think about their own feelings. Talking about our feelings helps us feel better. Art is a special way to show what is in our hearts. Sharing what is in our hearts is a wonderful thing that helps us all feel close together.
