The Book of Silly Rhymes
Hello. I am a book. My cover is bright white, and when you open me, you see wiggly black lines that make funny pictures. My pages rustle like leaves in the wind when you turn them. Shhh. Can you hear it? Inside, I hold lots of secrets and giggles. I have poems about silly people and strange animals, like a boy who turns into a TV set. I am a place where words love to play together. I am the book called 'Where the Sidewalk Ends'.
A man with a friendly smile and a very big imagination made me. His name was Shel Silverstein, and he was my friend. He gave me all my words and pictures. A long, long time ago, in a year called 1974, Shel took his pen and started to draw and write on my empty pages. He filled me with poems that bounce and rhymes that dance. He made me so children like you could have a special place to visit that is full of fun and wonder. He wanted me to make you laugh.
For many years, children have opened my cover to find a world of fun. My poems and pictures help them giggle and dream big dreams. I show them that it is wonderful to be silly. I remind everyone that there is a magical place just past where the sidewalk ends. It is a place for your imagination, and you can visit anytime you open a book and let your mind play.
