A Story from Where the Wild Things Are
Do you feel my smooth, colorful cover. When you open me, my pages make a soft swishing sound, like leaves dancing in the wind. Hello. I am a book. Inside my pages, you can see a little boy named Max wearing a funny wolf suit. He sails in a little boat across a big, big ocean. He finds an island filled with friendly monsters. They have big yellow eyes and silly, sharp teeth. I am a world of pictures and words, and my name is 'Where the Wild Things Are'.
My maker was a kind man with a giant imagination named Maurice Sendak. He used his special pencils and colorful paints to bring me to life a long, long time ago, on June 1st, 1963. He drew the story of Max, who felt very grumpy one night. So Max got in his boat and sailed far, far away to an island. On the island, he met the Wild Things. They roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth. But Max was not scared. He tamed them with a magic trick and became their king. Then they all had a wild rumpus together, dancing under the moon.
After the big, fun rumpus, Max started to feel a little lonely. He missed his home and someone who loved him very, very much. So he waved goodbye to the Wild Things and sailed all the way back to his room. And guess what. His supper was waiting for him, and it was still hot. I am here to show you that it is okay to have big, wild feelings sometimes. It is fun to go on adventures in your imagination. But it is always wonderful to come back home, where you are safe and loved. I help you dream big dreams and remember you always have a special place where you belong.
