Christopher Columbus and His Big Adventure
Hello there. My name is Christopher Columbus, and I have always loved the big, blue sea. When I was a boy, I would watch the ships sail away and dream of my own adventure. I had a very big dream. I wanted to sail across the giant ocean to find a new way to visit faraway lands filled with treasures and spices. It was a journey no one had ever made before. I knew I would need help, so I went to the kind Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand of Spain. I told them about my big dream, and guess what. They said yes. They gave me what I needed to make my dream come true.
We set sail on a sunny day, August 3rd, 1492, with three strong ships. Their names were the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa María. Can you say their names with me. Niña, Pinta, Santa María. For many days and many nights, all we saw was water, water, and more water. The sun was warm on our faces, and the wind pushed our big sails, making the ships glide across the waves. At night, the sky was full of sparkly stars that twinkled like diamonds. It was a very, very long trip, but I was not scared. I felt excited because I knew we would find something amazing if we just kept going.
Then, one bright morning, a sailor high up on the ship's mast shouted, 'Land.'. He was so excited. We all ran to the edge of the ship to look. He was right. We had found it. On October 12th, 1492, we saw a beautiful island with tall green trees and soft, white sandy beaches. It was a whole new world to explore. My big dream had come true because I was brave. My journey showed everyone that if you have a big dream and you work hard, you can discover wonderful new things and go on the greatest adventures.
