Martin's Big Dream

Hello, my name is Martin. My birthday is on January 15th, and it is a very special day. When I was growing up, I had a big, wonderful dream. It was a very happy dream. I dreamed of a world where everyone could be friends, no matter what color their skin was or what they looked like. In my dream, all the children played together, holding hands and sharing their toys. We would all be kind to each other, like one big, happy family. I wanted everyone to be treated with love and fairness. It was a beautiful dream, and I wanted to share it with the whole world so it could come true.

Sometimes, the rules were not very fair. Some rules kept people apart just because they looked different, and that made many people sad. I knew this was not right. So, one sunny day, on August 28th, 1963, I gathered with many, many of my friends. We went on a big, peaceful walk together to show everyone that we wanted fairness. We walked and sang happy songs about friendship and hope. Then, I stood up and told everyone about my special dream. I said, “I have a dream,” and I shared my hope for a world filled with kindness. It felt so good to see so many smiling faces sharing the same wonderful dream with me.

Because so many people believed in my dream, things started to change. The unfair rules began to go away, and new, kinder rules took their place. Now, there is a special day to remember our dream. It’s called Martin Luther King Jr. Day. On that day, we all remember to be extra kind and to help our friends. You can help keep my dream alive. All you have to do is be a good friend to everyone you meet, every single day. That is the best way to make the world a happy place.
