A Walk on the Moon

Hello, my name is Neil. When I was a little boy, I loved to look up at the big, bright Moon shining in the night sky. It looked like a beautiful, glowing ball way up high. I would dream about flying up there to see what it was like. I wanted to be an astronaut, which is a special name for a space explorer. I dreamed of wearing a big white suit and a helmet with a shiny window. My friends and I talked all the time about building a super-fast rocket ship. We wanted to build a rocket so tall it could touch the clouds and so powerful it could fly all the way to the Moon. It was a very big dream, but dreaming big is the first step to a great adventure.

Then, one special day in 1969, my dream came true. I climbed inside a giant rocket with my friends. The rocket started to shake and rumble, and then WHOOSH. We blasted off into the sky, faster and faster. When we were in space, we floated around inside our spaceship like balloons. It was so much fun. I looked out the little window and saw our home, Earth. It looked like a beautiful blue and white marble spinning in the dark. When we landed gently on the Moon, I put on my big space suit and opened the door. I climbed down a ladder and took the very first step onto the Moon’s soft, dusty ground. I felt light and bouncy, like I was on a giant trampoline. We even planted a flag to say hello and show that we came in peace for all people. It was the best adventure ever, and it showed me that any dream can come true if you are brave and try your best.
