Cher Ami, the Brave Pigeon
Hello. My name is Cher Ami, and I am a little pigeon with soft, gray feathers. I love to coo and flutter my wings. I have a cozy nest where I sleep, but my favorite place is with my friends. My friends are soldiers, and they are very kind to me. They give me yummy seeds and fresh water. They are far away from their homes and need my help. They need me to carry messages for them because they don't have phones like we do today. It is a very important job for a little bird like me, and I am always happy to help them.
One day, my friends looked very worried. They needed help right away. One of my friends, a kind man, tied a tiny, tiny note to my leg. He whispered, "Fly, Cher Ami. Fly fast. Our friends need this message." I knew this was my most important job ever. I puffed out my chest to be brave and flapped my wings with all my might. Whoosh. I flew up, up, up into the big blue sky. I soared over green fields and tall, leafy trees. The wind tickled my feathers as I flew through the puffy white clouds. It was a tricky flight because there were some loud, surprising noises that tried to scare me, but I just thought about my friends. I had to be strong and keep flying to help them. I flew faster than I ever had before, like a little superhero bird.
I did it. I flew all the way to the other soldiers and gave them the tiny note. They were so happy to see me. Because of my message, they knew just how to help my friends. Soon, all my friends were safe and together again. They cheered for me and called me their little hero. They gave me extra special seeds to eat. It made my heart feel so warm and happy. I learned that even if you are small, like a little pigeon, you can do big, important things. Helping your friends is the best feeling in the whole wide world.
