Antiseptic

Hello. I am a boo-boo helper. My special name is Antiseptic. I help when you get a little cut or a scrape. A long, long time ago, before I was around, little boo-boos could get very yucky and sore. This was because of tiny, invisible troublemakers called germs. You can’t see them, but they loved to sneak into owies and make them feel bad. I was invented to stop those sneaky germs and help everyone feel better, faster.

I have a very special friend. He was a kind doctor named Joseph Lister. He was very sad when he saw people get sick from simple little cuts. He wanted to find a way to help them. One day, on August 12th, 1865, he had a wonderful idea. He saw a little boy who had a big owie on his leg. Dr. Lister gently used my special cleaning power to clean the boo-boo. I worked very hard to shoo all the yucky germs away. I made a clean, safe space so the boy's leg could heal. Soon, the boy was all better, and he could run and play again. Dr. Lister was so happy.

After I helped that little boy, all the other doctors wanted my help too. I went to work in hospitals, making everything super clean and safe for everyone. The rooms were cleaner, the tools were cleaner, and people got better much faster. Now, I am not just in hospitals. I am in your home too. I might be in a little brown bottle or on a special wipe. When you tumble and get a scrape, I am ready to help clean it up so you can get right back to playing. I love my job of keeping you safe and healthy.
