The Story of the Glue Stick

Hello there. I am a little glue stick, and I am here to help you make wonderful art. Before I was invented, making pictures was very, very messy. There was only goopy, drippy glue that came in a big bottle. It would spill and get all over your fingers and the table. When you tried to glue paper, it would get all wet and wrinkly. It was so hard to stick things together without making a big, sticky mess. Everyone wished there was a cleaner, easier way to glue things together for their special projects.

One day in 1967, a very clever man named Dr. Wolfgang Dierichs was on an airplane. He watched as someone next to him twisted up a tube of lipstick to put it on. He saw how the lipstick pushed up so smoothly and cleanly. Suddenly, he had a brilliant idea. He thought, 'What if glue could work just like that?'. He rushed to his company, which was called Henkel, and told them his idea. They all worked together to put solid, sticky glue inside a twist-up tube. Finally, in 1969, I was born. I was the very first glue stick, ready to help without any drips or goops.

After I was created, crafting became so much fun and so much cleaner. Little hands could hold me easily. With a little twist, I would pop up, ready to go. Swish, swipe, stick. It was that simple. No more sticky fingers or wrinkly paper. Children could make beautiful pictures with colorful paper, shiny glitter, and soft cotton balls all by themselves. I love helping you create amazing things from your imagination. Every time you make something new, I feel so proud to be your helpful, tidy friend.
