The Story of the LEGO Brick
Hello there. I am a little LEGO brick. I am bright and colorful, and I love to make a happy click sound when I connect with my friends. We can be stacked up, up, up into tall towers or long, wiggly snakes. My first home was in a cozy workshop far away in a country called Denmark. A very kind toymaker named Ole Kirk Christiansen gave me my start. He loved making children happy and began making fun wooden toys a long, long time ago, way back in 1932. He was my very first friend and he dreamed of making the best toys in the world.
At first, Ole made toys from wood, like little ducks and cars. But I was different. In 1949, he decided to make me out of shiny, colorful plastic. It was so exciting. But I had a little problem. When my friends and I were stacked together, we would wobble and fall down. We couldn't hold on very tight. Then, Ole's son, whose name was Godtfred, had a super-duper smart idea. On a special day, January 28th, 1958, he changed me forever. He gave me little round tubes inside. Now, when I connect with another brick, I go click and hold on super tight. No more wobbling for me.
That little click made all the difference. Suddenly, children could build amazing things that stayed together. They could build giant castles, fast race cars, and spaceships that zoomed to the moon in their imaginations. I love helping boys and girls take their biggest, brightest dreams and build them with their own hands. From a little idea in Denmark, I traveled all over the world to play. And I am still here, a little plastic brick, just waiting for a friend like you to help me build our next big adventure together. What will we build today?
