The Story of the Little Battery with a Big Spark

Hello there. I am a little power pack. My name is Lithium-ion Battery. I am very small, but I am very strong. Before I came along, my battery friends could only work one time. After they gave their energy away, they had to be thrown out. That made them sad. But I am special. I can be used again and again. Think of me like a napping friend. When I get sleepy, you can plug me in and give me more energy. Then I wake up all ready to play and work again. I love helping your toys and gadgets feel full of zing.

It took a long time and three very smart friends to make me. They worked together to give me my special spark. First, my friend Stanley had the big idea for me in the 1970s. He knew there had to be a better way to make power. Then, in 1980, my friend John made me even stronger and full of more energy. I was getting so excited. A few years later, in 1985, my friend Akira made me safe so I would not get too hot. He made sure I was ready to go out into the big world and help everyone. Finally, in 1991, I was ready. My very first job was helping a camera take bright, happy pictures. Click, click, flash. It was so much fun.

Today, I am everywhere. I help power so many wonderful things. I give energy to the phones your family uses to talk and see each other. I help tablets light up with fun games and stories. I even help some cars drive quietly down the street, vroom vroom, without any noisy sounds. Because I can be used over and over, I help take care of our wonderful world. We do not have to throw so many batteries away. I am just a small battery, but I have a very big and very bright job helping you learn, play, and stay connected.
