The Super-Fast Helper
Hi there. I'm a Solid State Drive, but my friends call me SSD. I live inside your computer or tablet, and I have a very important job. I remember all of your favorite things. I keep your fun cartoons, your happy songs, and your exciting games safe and sound. My special trick is that I can remember them super-duper fast. Before I came along, my older cousins were a little bit slow, like sleepy turtles. They had parts that moved and spun around. But not me. I'm a speedy helper, and I love to zoom.
My story began a long time ago, with a very smart man from Japan named Dr. Fujio Masuoka. In the 1980s, he had a big, bright idea. He wanted to make a memory that was as quick as a camera's flash. Click. Just like that. That’s how my special power, called 'flash memory', got its wonderful name. I felt so excited to be a new idea. Then, on a special day in 1991, some other very clever people built the very first one of me that could live inside a real computer. I don’t have any spinning parts like a top. I am very quiet and very still. I just sit and think really, really fast to help you play.
Because I am so fast, I help your world go zoom. I help your computer wake up in the blink of an eye when you want to play. I make your favorite games load in a snap, so you don’t have to wait. Waiting is no fun, is it. When you want to watch a movie or draw a big, colorful picture, I get it ready for you right away. I love being the speedy helper inside your favorite gadgets. It makes me feel so proud to make your playtime and learning time quicker and more exciting every single day.
