Surge Protector

Hello there. My name is Surge Protector, and I might look like a simple power strip with lots of outlets, but I have a very important, secret job. I am a bodyguard for all your favorite electronics. That's right. I protect your family's big television, your computer where you play games, and even your video game console. You see, sometimes the electricity that flows through the wires in your house gets a little wild. It can have a sudden, big 'hiccup' or a loud 'sneeze'. This big zap of electricity is called a power surge, and it can be very mean to my electronic friends. It can hurt them and make them stop working, and nobody wants that to happen.

I got my special job a long time ago, back when more and more wonderful electronics were finding homes with families just like yours. People were so excited to have new televisions and radios. But these new gadgets were delicate, and big zaps of electricity, especially from thunderstorms or flickering lights, could break them easily. A very clever man named Harold P. Kopp saw how sad this made everyone. He knew he had to do something to help. So, on October 31st, 1972, he came up with a special design just for me. He built a secret shield inside my body. This shield is like a superhero's power. It waits for one of those big electricity sneezes and stops it right in its tracks before it can cause any trouble for your gadgets.

Now, I work quietly every single day, usually plugged into a wall behind a desk or a TV stand. I let the perfect, gentle amount of electricity flow through me to keep all the devices happy and running smoothly. But if a big, rowdy surge comes rushing down the wire, I bravely stand in its way and block it. I take the big zap so your electronics don't have to. It makes me so happy to know that I am protecting everyone's favorite things. Because of me, the fun, the learning, and the movies never have to stop just because of a silly power hiccup.
