Vasilisa and Baba Yaga

Once there was a little girl named Vasilisa. She walked into a big, deep forest where the trees were very tall. The sunlight peeked through the leaves, making bright, shiny spots on the ground. Vasilisa was not scared. She was a brave and curious girl. She wanted to see all the wonderful things in the woods. This is the story of Vasilisa and the famous Baba Yaga.

As Vasilisa walked, she saw something silly and amazing. She saw a little hut standing on giant chicken legs. The hut could dance. It went spin, spin, spin, and then it stopped right in front of her. The door opened with a little creak. An old woman with twinkling eyes looked out. It was Baba Yaga. Baba Yaga asked Vasilisa for help. She asked her to sweep the floor with a soft broom. Swish, swish, swish went the broom. Then she asked her to sort a pile of colorful berries. Red berries here, blue berries there. Vasilisa was a very good helper. She was also very kind to a little cat sleeping by the warm fire.

Baba Yaga saw what a good and kind girl Vasilisa was. She smiled a big smile. Because Vasilisa was so helpful, Baba Yaga gave her a special gift. It was a magical lantern. Inside the lantern was a tiny, glowing light that shone so bright. The little light helped Vasilisa see the path to go home. The story of Baba Yaga teaches us that it is good to be brave and kind. When you are kind to others, you can find a light to help you, even in the darkest woods.
