Little Red Riding Hood

A Sunny Day for a Walk

Once there was a sweet little girl who everyone called Little Red Riding Hood. She wore a beautiful cloak the color of a bright red apple that her grandmother made just for her. One sunny morning, her mother packed a basket with yummy cakes and sweet juice for Grandma, who was feeling a little sick. 'Go straight to Grandma's house,' her mother said, 'and don't talk to anyone you don't know in the woods.' This is the story of Little Red Riding Hood's walk through the big, green forest. The little girl promised to be very careful, gave her mother a happy kiss goodbye, and skipped out the door with her basket swinging in her hand.

A Tricky Friend in the Forest

The forest was full of tall trees and colorful flowers. Birds were singing happy songs. As Little Red Riding Hood walked, a big wolf with clever, shiny eyes stepped onto the path. 'Good morning,' he said in a soft, friendly voice. 'Where are you going with that basket full of goodies?' Little Red Riding Hood forgot what her mother said and told him all about her sick grandma. The wolf had a tricky smile and pointed to some pretty flowers. 'Why don't you pick a big bunch for her?' he suggested. While she was busy picking beautiful flowers, the sneaky wolf ran ahead. He ran very fast, all the way to her grandmother's little cottage. He had a tricky plan.

A Surprise at Grandma's House

When Little Red Riding Hood got to Grandma's house, the door was already open. She tiptoed inside and saw someone in the bed wearing Grandma's nightcap. But something was not right. Her voice sounded deep and scratchy, and her eyes looked so big. Before she could get any closer, a kind and strong woodcutter who was working in the forest heard a strange sound. He rushed inside the house and saw the tricky wolf. The wolf was so surprised that he jumped up and ran right out the door, back into the forest, and was never seen again. The real Grandma was safe and sound. Little Red Riding Hood learned it is always important to listen to her parents and be careful.
