Loki's Golden Hair

Hello! My name is Loki. I live in a shiny, bright place called Asgard. It is way up high in the sky. I love to play games and have fun. Sometimes, my games are a little bit naughty. One day, I saw the goddess Sif. She had beautiful hair. It was long and golden, just like the sun. I played a silly trick. Snip, snip, snip! I cut off all her pretty hair. Oh no! That was not a good trick. This is the story of my big mistake, and how it helped make some amazing, magical things. The people of the North have told this story for a very, very long time.

Sif's husband is named Thor. He is very strong. When Thor saw Sif's hair was gone, he was not happy. His voice was like a big drum! Boom! Boom! Boom! I felt a little scared. I said, "I will fix it! I promise!". So I went down, down, down. I went to a secret cave under a big mountain. This is where the dwarves live. The dwarves are the best makers in the whole world. Their home was full of sparkles and sounds. Clang! Clang! went their little hammers. The fires were so warm and bright. I asked two dwarf brothers for help. "Can you make treasures for the gods?" I asked. They said yes! They took shiny gold. They spun it and spun it into long, soft threads. It looked like wiggly, golden spaghetti! It was so beautiful.

I went back up, up, up to Asgard. I had the most wonderful gifts! I gave the new hair to Sif. She put the golden hair on her head. Poof! It started to grow. It was so shiny and beautiful, just like the real sun. Sif was so happy! She smiled a big, bright smile. But that was not all! The dwarves also made a big hammer for Thor. Wham! It was a strong hammer. They made a fast spear for Odin, the king. Everyone was happy now. My silly trick turned into a happy day. Even when we make a mistake, we can fix it. And sometimes, fixing a mistake can make something new and wonderful happen. That's a little bit of magic.
