The Little Mermaid
Down, down, down at the bottom of the big blue sea is my home. It is a sparkly castle. My name is Marina. I am a little mermaid. I have five big sisters. We love to play. We play hide-and-seek in the colorful coral. The coral is red and yellow and blue. My grandmother tells us stories. She tells stories about the world up high. Up there, the sun is bright and warm. I wanted to see the bright sun. I wanted to see the world up high. This is my story. It is the story of The Little Mermaid.
When I was big enough, I swam up, up, up to the top of the water. I saw a big boat. A prince was on the boat. Then, crash. Boom. A big storm came. The waves went up and down. The prince fell into the water. I was brave. I helped the prince swim to the land. I liked the prince. I wanted to have legs like him. I wanted to walk on the land. So I went to see the Sea Witch. She had a magic potion. The potion would give me two legs. But I had to give her my singing voice. I could not sing anymore. It was hard to walk on my new legs. But I really wanted to see the prince again.
The prince was very nice, but he did not know I was a mermaid. My time on land was over. But my story was not over. Because I was so kind, I got a special gift. I did not go back to the sea. I went up, up, up into the sky. I became a spirit of the air. I can float on the soft, fluffy clouds. I can watch over all the good children. My story teaches us to be kind and brave. Being kind is the best magic of all. A statue of me sits by the sea today, so everyone remembers to have a kind heart.
