Ra - Ancient Egyptian

Hello, little one. My name is Ra, and I sail a golden boat across the big, blue sky. My boat is shiny and bright. When the world is dark and sleepy, I get ready for my most important job: bringing the sunshine. Every morning, I climb aboard and begin my journey to wake up the world. I love to paint the sky with light. This is the story of how I do it, the myth of Ra and the Sun Boat.

My golden boat glides across the sky, like a big, bright balloon. Up, up, up I go. My warm light shines down on the land of Egypt. I watch the sleepy flowers open their petals and the little birds start to sing their happy morning songs. I see the children run outside to play in my warmth. As the day ends, I sail my boat down, down, down below the world. It gets very dark and quiet here, but I have to be brave. My job is to chase away all the grumpy shadows so that morning can come back again. I carry my light through the darkness, getting ready for a new day.

And guess what. I always succeed. The shadows run away from my big light. Just as you are waking up, I rise again in the east, bringing a brand new, shiny day. A long, long time ago, people told my story to explain the magic of sunrise and sunset. They even built tall, pointy buildings called pyramids that reached up to the sky, like a special 'hello' to me. My story reminds us that even after the darkest night, the light will always return, bringing hope and a new day to play.
