The Great Sky Chase

In a land of soft, white snow, lived a girl named Siqiniq and her brother, Aningaaq. Their world was very dark, with only the tiny, twinkly stars for light. Inside their warm igloo, they loved to play games. One night, they decided to play a fun game of tag. This special game would change the world forever. This is the story of The Girl Who Married the Moon.

Siqiniq picked up a torch. The torch was made of moss, and its flame was warm and bright. It glowed like a little piece of sunshine. 'You can't catch me!' she giggled. She ran out into the snowy, dark night. Aningaaq grabbed his torch and ran after her. Chasing, chasing, chasing his sister. Siqiniq ran so fast! Her feet went pat-pat-pat on the snow, and then they lifted off the ground. She floated up, up, up into the big, dark sky. Her bright torch made everything warm. Aningaaq followed her up, up, up, but his torch was not as bright as hers.

Now, their game of tag never, ever ends. Siqiniq became the beautiful, bright Sun. Her light brings the daytime and makes everyone feel warm. Her brother, Aningaaq, became the gentle Moon. His soft light follows her across the night sky. The Sun comes, and then the Moon comes. Day comes, and then night comes. It is a big, happy chase across the sky. When you see the Sun in the day, that is Siqiniq playing. When you see the Moon at night, that is Aningaaq chasing. It is a beautiful dance that reminds us there is always light.
