The Sea's Sunny Story

Can you feel how warm I am. It is like a cozy hug for your toes. Splash. Splash. The sun makes me sparkle like a thousand tiny diamonds. Little fish that are yellow, blue, and orange swim all around. They tickle your feet as they zip by. Hear my gentle waves whisper secrets to the sand. Shhh. Shhh. I am a beautiful, splashy playground full of sunshine and happy sounds. I am a very special place where the water is always clear and bright. I am the Caribbean Sea.

Long, long ago, my waters were a big, quiet road. The first people to know me, the Taíno people, paddled their smooth canoes across my back. Their paddles went dip, dip, dip in my blue water as they traveled from island to island. Much later, big ships with puffy white sails like clouds came to visit. An explorer named Christopher Columbus sailed on me on a sunny day, October 12th, 1492. He was so surprised to see all my beautiful islands. Sometimes, silly pirates would sail with me, too. They looked for shiny treasure and sang loud, happy songs about adventure.

Today, I am a happy home for so many wonderful animals. Big sea turtles swim slowly through my gentle currents, and playful dolphins leap into the air to say hello. I connect many green islands where people laugh, play beautiful music, and tell amazing stories. My biggest job is to be a fun place for families and friends. I love it when children come to build sandcastles on my shores and splash in my warm waves. I am here to share my sunshine and connect everyone with my wonderful, watery world.
