The Mountain of Dreams
My head is always in the clouds, wearing a pointy crown of ice and snow. The wind loves to sing songs as it whistles past my rocky shoulders. At night, the stars feel so close I could almost touch them. From way up here, I can see the whole world stretch out like a big, round map. I am the tallest giant in a family of mountains called the Himalayas. Can you guess my name? I am Mount Everest.
I was born a very, very long time ago, even before the dinosaurs. The ground pushed and pushed, reaching up higher and higher to the sky until I became the tallest of all. For many years, special people have lived in my shadow. They are called the Sherpa people, and they are my good friends. They gave me a beautiful name, Chomolungma, which means 'Goddess Mother of the World.' They said I watch over them. For a long time, people would look up at me and say, 'You are too tall to climb.' But some were very brave and wanted to try. In the year 1953, on a special day, May 29, two friends came to visit. One was a brave Sherpa man named Tenzing Norgay. The other was a friendly explorer from a faraway land called New Zealand, named Edmund Hillary. They worked together like the best team ever. They carefully climbed up my icy sides, helping each other step by step. It was very hard, but they did not give up. Finally, they stood right on my tippy-top, the very first people to ever do it. I felt so proud as they looked out at the amazing view. They had shown the world that with teamwork, anything is possible.
Today, people still come from all over the world to see me. They bring their big dreams and brave hearts. Climbing me is a huge challenge, but they do it to see how strong they can be and to look at the beautiful world from my peak. I love to watch them help each other, sharing ropes and happy smiles. When they reach my top, they cheer and hug, and I feel their joy. I am not just a mountain made of rock and ice. I am a mountain of dreams. I want to remind you that even when something seems too hard or too high, you can do it. With good friends to help you and a brave heart, you can climb your own special mountains in life.
