The Land of Animal Songs
The sun is like a warm, yellow blanket on my back. My grass is tall and tickly, and it whispers secrets to the wind. Shhh, can you hear it? Under the big, flat trees, sleepy lions yawn big, sleepy yawns. Roar. And look. Zebras run by in their stripy pajamas. Clip-clop, clip-clop. Birds sing sweet songs from morning until night. I am a happy, sunny land full of animal songs. I am the Serengeti National Park.
For a very, very long time, my good friends, the Maasai people, lived here with me. They walked on my soft dirt and sang songs with the birds. They loved all the animals and knew how to be gentle friends with them. Then, other people came to visit me. They saw the happy lions and the stripy zebras. They saw how special all my animal families were, from the tall giraffes to the big elephants. So, a long time ago, in the year 1951, they made a promise. They promised to keep me safe forever. I became a special park, a forever home for every animal that lives here.
The best time of year is when I have the world’s biggest parade. It’s so exciting. Millions of my animal friends, the wildebeest and the zebras, march together. Tap, tap, tap go their hooves on the ground. They are looking for fresh green grass to eat and cool water to drink. They walk and walk under my big, blue sky. I keep them safe on their long journey. I am a forever home, and I love sharing my sunshine and my animal songs with everyone who comes to visit or sees my pictures.
