A Polar Bear's Snowy Story

Hello! I am a polar bear. My coat is fluffy and white, just like the snow all around me. It is very thick and keeps me super warm when the wind blows cold. My white fur is also great for playing hide-and-seek in the snow. I was born in a tiny, warm den that my mother dug deep in the snow. It was very cozy and safe inside. I lived there with my mother and my brother. We snuggled close together to stay toasty and warm all day long.

My home is in the Arctic. It is a vast region encompassing ice-covered seas, tundra, and diverse ecosystems. This whole place is my giant, snowy playground. I love to explore and play here. My favorite thing to do is swim in the chilly, blue water. My big paws are perfect for swimming. I use them like strong paddles to help me glide through the waves. Splish, splash, I go. Walking in my snowy home is just as fun. When I walk on the land, my paws are very special. They are wide and have furry bottoms, so I can walk right on top of the soft snow without sinking down deep. It is like I am wearing my own snowshoes all the time. This helps me walk for a long, long time without getting tired.

I have a super sniffer. My nose is very powerful, and it helps me find my favorite snack when I am hungry. I can smell a tasty seal from very, very far away, even if it is hiding. Being a good hunter is my special job in the Arctic. It is very important. When I find my food, I help keep the number of seals just right in the ocean. This helps our whole Arctic home stay healthy and balanced for all the other animals that live here with me. It is an important job that keeps our snowy world happy.
