A Day in My Life as a Red Fox
Hello there. I am a red fox. My fur is a pretty, reddish-orange color, just like a sunset in the sky. It is so soft to touch. My tummy is soft and white, like a fluffy cloud, and my pointy ears are black. The best part is my big, bushy tail. It is so long and helps me balance when I run and play. At the very, very end of my tail, there is a special white tip. It wags back and forth when I am happy. I love my beautiful fur and my special tail.
My day is full of fun adventures. During dawn and dusk, I like to look for yummy red berries growing on the bushes. They are so sweet and juicy. After my snack, it is time to play a game. I use my big, pointy ears to listen, listen, listen for tiny sounds in the tall grass. When I hear a little squeak, I get ready. I wiggle my bottom and then I do a super high jump. It is called a pounce. I jump up, up, up into the air and land right on top of a little mouse hiding in the grass. That is how I find my lunch.
When my day of playing is done, I go back to my cozy home. My home is called a den. Red foxes dig their own dens or modify existing burrows, with depths typically ranging from 0.5 to 2.5 meters (1.6 to 8.2 feet), so I can feel safe and warm when I sleep. Being a fox is a very important job. By eating berries and mice, I help keep the fields and forests balanced and healthy for everyone. That is my special job in the world.
