A Triceratops's Tale
Hello. My name is Triceratops. That’s a big name that means ‘three-horned face’. Can you help me count my horns? I have one on my nose, and one over each eye. One, two, three. I have three horns. I also have a big, bony shield behind my head. It is called a frill. My frill made me look very special and very strong. It was like wearing a crown all the time. I loved my three horns and my big, strong shield. They were a part of who I was, and they helped me feel safe and brave in my big world.
I was a plant-eater, which means my favorite snacks grew from the ground. I had a strong beak, like a bird, that was perfect for munching on yummy plants that grew low to the ground. I was herbivorous, feeding on ferns, cycads, palms, and other low-growing plants. I was a very big and strong dinosaur. My strong body helped me push through thick forests to find the best plants to eat. Being big and strong also helped me stay safe. There were other big dinosaurs around, like Tyrannosaurus rex, but my size and horns helped protect me while I looked for my favorite snacks.
I lived a very, very long time ago. My home was here on Earth during the Late Cretaceous period. I am not around anymore, but you can still learn all about me. If you go to a museum, you can see my big bones. Seeing my bones helps you imagine how big I really was. I am so happy that my story helps everyone discover the amazing animals that once lived on our Earth.
