A. P. J. Abdul Kalam: The Boy Who Could Fly

Hello. My name is A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. A long time ago, on October 15th, 1931, I was born in a town right next to the big, blue sea. I loved watching the birds soar high in the sky. They would dip and dive in the wind. I wanted to fly just like them. To help my family, I would wake up very early in the morning. I delivered newspapers to people's homes, but I always made time to study and learn new things. I loved learning.

I studied very, very hard in school because I wanted to learn all about flying. I learned about science and how to build amazing things. I was so happy. I got to work with a team to build big, shiny rockets. It was my job to help make them fly way, way up, past the clouds and into space. It felt like I was helping my country touch the stars. Vroom. The rockets went so high.

Later in my life, I was given a very important job. I became the President of India. My favorite part was meeting children just like you. I told them to always dream big, work hard, and be kind. Your dreams are so important. No matter how small you start, your dreams can take you as high as a rocket in the sky. Always remember to look up at the stars and dream.
