The Story of Charles Schulz

Hello. My name is Charles Schulz, but when I was little, everyone called me Sparky. When I was a boy, I loved to draw more than anything else. I would draw on my school papers, on napkins, and on any piece of paper I could find. Drawing just made me feel so happy. I had a very special best friend. He was my dog, and his name was Spike. Spike was a funny black and white dog who did all sorts of silly things. He made me laugh every day. I loved to draw pictures of him playing and being goofy. He was the best dog a boy could ask for.

When I grew up, I knew I wanted to share my drawings with the whole world. So, I decided to make a comic strip for the newspaper. A comic strip tells a little story with pictures. I created a whole group of friends, and you might know them. There was a very kind boy named Charlie Brown, who always tried his best at everything, even when things were tricky. And of course, I drew a special dog for him named Snoopy. Snoopy looked a lot like my old friend, Spike. My comic strip was called Peanuts, and the very first one appeared on October 2nd, 1950. It was so exciting to see my drawings in the paper for everyone to read.

For almost 50 years, which is a very, very long time, I drew Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and all their friends every single day. I loved sharing their fun adventures with children and grown-ups all over the world. I hoped my drawings made people laugh and feel happy. It was the best feeling to know that my pictures could bring a little bit of sunshine into someone's day. It just goes to show that if you love doing something, like I loved drawing, you can share that love and bring smiles to everyone.
