Mother Teresa: A Story of Kindness

Hello. My name was Agnes, and I was born a long, long time ago, in the year 1910. I lived in a town called Skopje with my loving family. My dear mother taught me that it was very important to share everything we had with others. She would say, “When you have a yummy cookie, share a piece with a friend.” I loved helping her. We would cook warm soup for our neighbors and visit people who were sick or lonely. Giving someone a smile to brighten their day made my heart feel so full and happy. It was my favorite thing to do.

When I grew up, my heart told me that I needed to help people all over the world. I wanted everyone to feel loved. So, I decided to become a nun, a special helper for God. I chose a new name for my new life, and that name was Teresa. I packed my small bag and got on a big boat to travel far, far away to a country called India. The boat sailed across the big blue water for many days. When I arrived in the busy city of Calcutta, I saw so many people who needed help. Some people were hungry and didn't have enough food to eat. Others didn't have a cozy bed to sleep in. My heart felt sad for them, and I knew right away that I had to do something to help.

So, I started a group of helpers called the Missionaries of Charity. We all worked together to spread love. We wore special white and blue clothes that felt like a hug you can wear. We opened homes where we could give people warm food to fill their tummies and clean beds so they could rest. Most importantly, we gave them lots of love and big smiles to let them know they were special. I spent my whole life helping others, and I want you to know something important. Even a small act of kindness, like sharing a toy or giving a hug, can make the world a much brighter and happier place for everyone.
